The four sleep cycles—nrem 1, nrem 2, nrem 3, and rem sleep—are crucial for physical and mental restoration. NREM 3 (deep sleep) is particularly important for muscle recovery, tissue repair, and the strengthening of the immune system [3]. REM sleep is essential for cognitive function, memory consolidation, and emotional regulation.

The insomnia I have experienced over the years has taken a toll on my physical and mental health. It is a constant battle to get the rest I need, and this has fueled my hope to achieve near-perfect sleep again. While I have likely given up hope of ever getting perfect sleep again, it doesn’t mean that every day isn't a step forward. Small steps and habits can make a significant difference, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can improve sleep quality over time.
