Everyone has a story that inspires them, and my story centers around a special occasion that taught me an important lesson in live auctions. On a day not so unlike any other, I found myself at a massive auction, filled with a wide array of items. As a self-proclaimed 'junk dealer', I was letting the high-value items go and instead focusing on the more affordable gets.

When no one else bid, the auctioneer, knowing of my history in the auctions, made a playful comment to the crowd, hinting at the great deal I would get. The old man finally bid $22.50, to which I countered with $25. This, along with no further bids, sealed the deal. The auctioneer had no choice but to let me take my picks at $25.

Over 125 dollars later, I stood among the ashes of the auctioneer's expectations: five boxes of fly fishing gear, two brand new reels, an older reel, over 1000 hand-tied flies, a vise, pounds of material, a tackle box loaded with freshwater gear, a throw net, a seine net, a bait bucket, and a bunch of other items that are now a cherished part of my collection. The flies alone, sold for $1.00 or more each, made the purchase even more valuable to me.
