The Journey to Understanding: When Everything Starts to Make Sense

Understanding life can be a winding journey, marked by early confusion and the gradual unfolding of meaning. Up until around the age of seven, human consciousness operates mostly unconsciously. Around this time, an individual begins to develop a self-sense or ego, which leads to the acquisition of a personality. Through this lens, the world can begin to 'make sense,' but for 'everything' to truly align, one must attain a higher state of understanding, often referred to as enlightenment. Even enlightenment presents itself in various stages, each offering a richer insight into the complexities of reality.

Christianity as a Guide

For many, including myself, Christianity has always provided a framework through which life can be understood. The concepts of good and evil, and the existence of a moral compass within one's belief system, offer a comforting structure. However, the journey of understanding within Christianity is not always straightforward. It involves deepening one's faith and expanding the understanding of biblical teachings.

Transformation in Ministerial Pathway

The turning point for me came during my second year at university, when I switched from attending a Church of England to a charismatic church. This shift brought about a significant transformation in my spiritual journey. The regular teaching about the Holy Spirit was particularly enlightening. The notion that we could possess the same power that resided in Jesus made many Biblical passages more comprehensible. It also provided a new perspective on modern miracles, shifting the question from 'can God perform miracles today' to 'why doesn't God do more miracles today.'

Aligning the Scriptural Teachings

The second pivotal point in my journey came when I discovered a particular teacher who exemplified his calling very visibly. This teacher not only had a clear calling but also emphasized teaching others. One key lesson I learned from him was to take the Bible at face value. He encouraged a literal interpretation, which often led to a deeper understanding of the scriptures. For instance, regarding the days of creation, he pointed out that stating each day was a 24-hour period was problematic because the sun and moon were not created until the third day. This perspective challenged and refined my understanding of the passage.

Continuous Learning and Evolution

The process of understanding, particularly through the lens of Christianity, is not static. Over the years, I have continued to grapple with passages in the Bible that initially make sense as written but later raise questions. The ability to both accept and question is essential in this journey. It's a testament to the complexity and depth of spiritual exploration. In learning to trust the Bible as a guide, I've also learned to embrace the unknown and to refine my understanding as more light is shed on the passages.

As one progresses on this journey, the focus shifts from basic understanding to a deeper, more nuanced comprehension. This journey is ongoing, and each stage brings new revelations and challenges. The path to making everything 'make sense' is a personal one, deeply rooted in one's faith and learning experiences.
