The Sacred Fools Leap: My Journey into Entrepreneurship
The Sacred Fool's Leap: My Journey into Entrepreneurship
Introduction: Born into Entrepreneurship
I guess you could say I was born with an entrepreneurial spirit. From my early days, the idea of entrepreneurship has always been a part of who I am. As a young child, my fascination with breeding stock was just the beginning of my lifelong journey toward self-fulfillment and independence. I have always believed that to truly thrive, one must take charge of their own destiny. This belief in taking action for oneself has guided me through various experiences, from holding down jobs to pursuing my own ventures, and eventually leading me to make significant strides in entrepreneurship.
Early Influences and Experiences
One of my earliest entrepreneurial experiences was raising and showing cattle. My sister often recounted how I sold vegetables on our farm, which was my idea. Unlike her preference for dolls, I yearned to care for a calf to raise and sell on my own. This early initiative taught me the value of hard work and the satisfaction of self-reliance. As I grew older, I continued to explore different avenues, eventually taking on different jobs but always keeping my entrepreneurial spirit alive. Even during my tenure as an administrative assistant for a multinational company, I found myself constantly seeking new challenges and ways to pursue my own projects, learning and growing in the process.
The Catalyst: Startup Weekend
One pivotal moment that truly ignited my entrepreneurial journey came when I stumbled upon the Geekdom co-working space in San Antonio, TX. A chance tour led me to a poster about Startup Weekend, a grassroots event aimed at bringing together budding entrepreneurs and innovators. I decided to register and attend, where I met numerous individuals passionate about their own entrepreneurial ideas. This event was where I met my co-founders, and together, we embarked on what would become a significant chapter in my life. The experience provided invaluable mentorship and support, setting a firm foundation for the path ahead.
Support and Mentorship
My entrepreneurial endeavors gained further momentum when I joined the IBM Global Entrepreneurship Program. This natural fit for me served as a stepping stone to explore innovative solutions and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. Additionally, I received support from American Airlines and the New Venture Capital Association. The collective backing from these entities was nothing short of transformative, providing the resources and connections that are critical for entrepreneurial success. These experiences were deeply rooted in the characteristic of innovation that my mother had instilled in me from an early age.
The Leap of Faith
Despite all the success, challenges inevitably arose. My journey was marked by numerous trials and tribulations, including career gaps, rejections, toxic work environments, and personal struggles. Over the past two decades, I encountered numerous obstacles that tested my resolve. For instance, I pursued a career in biotechnology, but after years of frustration and disappointments, my efforts yielded no tangible results. Humbling myself to the reality that I needed to shift my focus, I finally surrendered my aspirations and redirected my energy into creating my own path.
Conclusion: The Sacred Fool and the Leap
Ultimately, my transition into entrepreneurship was less about getting a foot in the door and more about being pushed into the abyss called entrepreneurship. It was my higher self guiding me that urged me to take the leap. In the tarot, the Sacred Fool card represents someone taking a leap of faith, often leaping off a cliff with only a knapsack, symbolizing a willingness to let go of fear and embrace the unknown.
My current state of being the Sacred Fool is a testament to this intrinsic drive. I am stepping out into the unknown, driven by an unwavering belief in the possibilities that lie ahead. This journey is not about just surviving; it is about thriving and making a meaningful impact. As the Sacred Fool, I am taking a leap of faith, embracing the challenges that await, and trusting that the higher self will guide me to where I need to be.
